Beginning at 9:30am EST, Sri Lanka is being assessed by the Universal Periodic Review mechanism of the Human Rights Council, the process which examines the human rights record of every UN member country each four years.

PEN joined the Committee to Protect Journalists, International Federation of Journalists, International Media Support, Journalists for Democracy in Sri Lanka, and Reporters Without Borders to issue a critical report on press freedom and freedom of expression in the country.
